I know I haven’t been posting much in the past months….
Working full-time, being a wife & mom, and volunteering at the safe-house has been keeping me pretty well occupied. Life is so GREAT that I hardly have time to blog about it!
So, here’s a well overdue post with a few projects from some pretty special people in my life:
Isn’t her Kitty Pillow great?
Myself and a number of other volunteers are very privileged to participate in a mentoring program at the safe-house. Basically, after you’ve been serving there for a little while, one of the girls might put in a request for you to be her personal mentor. Being a mentor is a very special relationship because it means she trusts you to become a deeper part of her life.
All that to say, here is a picture of a lovely lady who mentors the girl that made the kitty pillow. A lot of times, the girls are happy to sew and stuff pillows etc. but they really appreciate when Ms. Dinah sews their pillows shut for them!
Here is another one-of-a-kind creation from a safe-house resident. She pulled all these design elements together on her own and came up with a lovey pillow. I really like her style! She’s already planning her next designer pillow.
Well, that’s all for now!
Just wanted to check in and let you know that sewing classes are still in full swing at the safe-house.
We now have 15 residents who attend sewing classes in shifts of 5 girls each and we have myself and four other volunteers who help with sewing on a weekly basis. We’ve found that classes run more smoothly if we are able to work one-on-one with each girl.
Ever think about using your sewing talents to help others? Let me know and I’ll help you get in touch with the volunteer coordinator at the safe-house.
We can always use the added help in these classes!
Thanks for reading! More coming soon!
